What happenedTuesday night, two attempts to open an explicit site were blocked on the work desktop at 11:42 and 11:44 PM. Three minutes later the Chrome extension was turned off and reporting from that browser stopped. It is still off. Saturday, one explicit site was blocked on the iPhone. What does ThouShaltNot do?
It combines website filtering with partner accountability. The apps and browser extensions block explicit content and the sites on your custom list. On an accountability plan, your accepted partners can review blocked attempts, overrides, and changes to your protection in their own portal.
Does it use a VPN?
No. ThouShaltNot uses browser extensions and app-based protection rather than a filtering VPN. That also means it is not a device-wide network filter; it protects the browsers and apps it is set up in.
What can my accountability partners see?
Flagged activity and protection information from your connected installations. Some browser events include the full flagged URL; mobile reports can be limited to the domain. Each week an AI-assisted summary organizes it for them. They do not receive a general browsing-history feed, and flagged URLs are never included in notification emails.
Will it detect attempts to get around protection?
It reports the signals it can see: known unsupported-browser activity, missing browser protection, certain permission changes, and interruptions in reporting. Visibility depends on the platform, permissions, and connection. A protection gap tells your partner that coverage changed, not what was visited or why.
Can I use it on all my devices?
The suite includes desktop, iPhone and iPad, and Android apps, each with protection built for that platform. Desktop filtering uses browser extensions, iOS filtering works in Safari, and Android filtering works in the protected in-app browser. Each device needs its own setup, and all of them connect to the same account and partners.
What if a safe page is blocked?
Filters make mistakes. Where Proceed is supported and your account has active accountability with an accepted partner, you can continue past the block and that override is reported to your partner. You can also report a mistaken block so we can fix it.
Do my partners need to pay or install anything?
No. Partners accept your invitation, create their own sign-in, and review in the web portal. There is no separate subscription and no monitoring app for them to install.
Who should I invite?
Someone who already knows you are working on this and will pick up the phone: a spouse, a pastor, a small-group leader, or a friend in the same fight. You need one accepted partner to start. The weekly AI-assisted summary gives them the context and the words, so they do not have to be an expert, only willing.
Is free filtering really free?
Yes. Browser and Safari filtering can be set up without an account or a subscription. The paid plan adds connected devices, partner reporting, and the account features listed under pricing.
Are reports always immediate?
No. Saved reports retry when a connection returns, but delivery depends on device state, permissions, and how the operating system schedules background work. A blocked page does not guarantee its report has already reached the portal.
What is the weekly AI summary?
A Beta feature in the partner portal that reads through the past week's recorded activity and protection context after a partner's first week of access, highlights what changed, and gives your partner the context to start the conversation. Only public website domains are sent for assessment, separated from full URLs and your identity, and the summary stays inside the portal. It can make mistakes and never establishes intent; partners should read it alongside the underlying events.
